February, as always, was a fantastic month for book, TV, and especially film releases! From Marvel masterpiece Black Panther to outstanding Oscar-worthy movies like The Shape of Water, and some much-awaited TV releases with series 2 of Jamestown and BBC’s star-studded Collateral. March was never going to seem as explosive, however, there are some things that I am very excited for!
Tomb Raider – March 16th
Though I’ve never played the Tomb Raider games myself, and the legacy of video-game movies hasn’t been the strongest, I cannot wait to see Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Going back to the beginnings of Croft’s storyline the Surely this Oscar-winning actress will be the one to break the curse!
A Wrinkle in Time – March 23rd
Disney’s latest live-action feature, an adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s bestselling novel, sports not only a stellar cast but also the hope to see a kick-ass feminist sci-fi film! With a female director, female heroine, and three major female icons in supporting roles, this film will be joyous to watch.
Ready Player One – March 29th
Steven Speilberg directs this sci-fi film set in the not-to-distant future in which augmented reality almost takes precedence over reality itself and I am very excited for it. This film, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller, looks to be as poignant as it will be action packed and full of some strong CGI work!
Jessica Jones season 2 – March 8th
Everybody will agree that Jessica Jones is the best Marvel superhero on Netflix. Maybe even the best superhero on TV – I certainly would. Season 2 hasn’t even started yet and the intrigue is considerable; is Kilgrave back? how will Jones cope with her acts at the end of the first season? how will this season develop the themes of toxic masculinity and PTSD?
We’ll just have to wait and see!
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 – March 30th
Season 1 of this show was a visual delight that is somehow reminiscent of both Wes Anderson and Tim Burton with the contrast of bright and bleak images used throughout. Five more of Snicket’s books are to be brought to life on Netflix, and I especially can’t wait to see The Carnivorous Carnival in all its gory wonder!
Far Cry 5 – March 27th
The Far Cry games (3 &4) are some of my favourite games of all time, I’d say Far Cry 3 is my favourite game of all time and consequently I am very ready for the next instalment. The open world environment is set in America, a topical and somewhat controversial decision and this deviation from the games norms looks to be very exciting indeed!
So there you have it! Let me know if you’re excited about any of these, and recommend me some books coming out in March as my to-be-read pile is shrinking!
